Sharon’s Story

It was 1988, and I was doing an internship at Bradley Angle. I was stuck in an unhappy marriage at the time—a marriage full of verbal abuse.

One night a woman called the shelter crying and reported her husband had called her horrible names and walked out on her.

I automatically went in to training mode… asking if she was safe, etc. She became very agitated and said “No, he didn’t hit me, he assaulted my soul.”

I was floored, but regained my composure and offered assurance that we were there for her.

I went home and gave it long thought… my soul too had been assaulted, and it was time for me to make a change.

What I learned during my effort to help another person helped me have the courage to change my life and break free of abuse.
